The documentary Sešivalnica spomina/Ricuciture di memorie (Stitching memories) recounts the story of a region that, over the centuries, has been marked by the border, while retaining its unique and unifying character. The shock and change in this region, on both sides of the border, occurred with the Iron Curtain, which descended between Italy and Yugoslavia after 1947. Today, this is a region mostly emptied of its original inhabitants, but no less determined to preserve the dignity of its specific existence. The video interviews, which the two authors conducted on the two sides of the border, reflect history in the small individual stories of those who remained in their homes or are now returning there. The new historical situation is making the borders porous and fluid again, allowing the renewal of ancient forms of life in a region that was shared for centuries.
