On 15 and 22 April 2025, at 21:05, the radio drama The Capuchin Crypt will be premiered on the First Programme of Radio Slovenija.
The play is based on the novel of the same name by the Austrian writer and publicist of Jewish origin Joseph Roth. The protagonist, Franz Ferdinand Trotta – played behind the microphone by Jure Kopušar – through the chronicle of his own family, recounts the collapse of the former Austro-Hungarian Empire and the difficult transition to the new Austrian society at the time of the rise of Nazism.
The radio drama is produced as part of the European Capital of Culture 2025 Nova Gorica-Gorizia, as part of the three-year programme Inabili alla morte, an Italian-Slovenian project that combines performing arts and historical memory to reflect on the fragility of European identity, the trauma of wars and the resilience of culture. The journey, which began in 2023, will culminate in September 2025 with a triptych of events involving Nova Gorica, Gorizia and Cividale del Friuli.
