A reading preview of La strage di Vergarolla (Vergarola explosion), a work currently being developed by Paolo Valerio and historian Davide Rossi. Eighty years after the events, Mittelfest hosts a special presentation dedicated to one of the most tragic and forgotten chapters of 20th-century Italy: the explosion on 18 August 1946, on Vergarola beach in Pula, which claimed the lives of dozens of civilians, including many children. An event still shrouded in silence, which we aim to restore to the collective memory as a vivid and necessary story, capable of questioning the past and shedding light on it beyond a period of oblivion that has lasted far too long.
