Frantic rhythms, improvisations, a taste for the irregular and the forbidden. Jazz exploded under the radar in 1930s Europe and alerted the Nazi-fascist regimes in Italy and Germany. Yet, that frantic freedom, that apparent disorder won many hearts. Between a Louis Armstrong who becomes Luigi Braccioforte and a Duke Ellington renamed Del Duca, this is a tribute to the power of a forbidden music, which shook censorship and totalitarianism with syncopated rhythms.
