They are Viennese, they have style, talent, love and technical expertise. They are The Erlkings. They are like Franz Schubert and Robert Schumann. Schubert’s most famous Lieders (Erlkönig, Der Zwerg, Die Forelle) and the masterpieces that make up Schumann’s Dichterliebe arrive at Mittelfest with the strange freshness of voice, guitar, cello, tuba, drums and vibraphone. There is a touch of folk, reminiscent of the west, in the way The Erlkings breathe new life into songs from almost two centuries ago. Humor and pathos find an unexpected home in these renewed gems of romantic song.
