How many forms can fear take? At least two, as this year’s Italy-Serbia concert shows. In Sergei Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf, fear is a fairy tale: each instrument is a character and the wolf is faced with courage, transforming anxiety into growth. In Ludwig van Beethoven’s Coriolan Overture, fear comes from within: tension and conflict with no way out. From fairy tale to tragedy, music reveals and transforms human fear, to better overcome it.
