In Remote Cividale a group of 30 people walk through the city wearing headphones. They are guided by a synthetic voice – just like that of GPS navigators. The encounter with this artificial intelligence leads the group and its members to test themselves. How are collective decisions taken? Who do we follow when we are guided by algorithms? 30 people observe each other, make individual decisions, but still remain part of a group. While artificial intelligence looks at human behaviour from afar, the voice sounds more familiar step by step. Along the way, binaural recordings and film scores provide a soundtrack for the cityscape. This walk through the city looks more and more like a collective film.
Remote Cividale questions artificial intelligence, big data and our predictability. It does so in the form of a walk through Cividale del Friuli, with a new look, conditioned by headphones sound. Thus, even the usual places and their signs take on unexpected forms and meanings.
The performance consists of a walk. Comfortable clothing and water is recommended.
Departure at the Cimitero Maggiore of Cividale del Friuli and arrival in the city center.
