Goli Otok è un nome che incute ancora terrore. Tradotto significa Isola Calva. Dal 1949 al 1956 il maresciallo Tito la adibì a campo di concentramento e vi internò “traditori”, “oppositori”, “nemici della Jugoslavia”. In quell’inferno, fame, sete, malattie e atroci violenze distruggevano le persone e i loro pensieri. Per sopravvivere, i prigionieri dovevano dimostrare di essersi ravveduti. Dimostrarlo era semplice: massacrare gli ex compagni, gli amici, i fratelli, i figli, i padri.

Goli Otok is a name that still suggests terror. Translated, it means Barren Island. From 1949 to 1959, it served as a concentration camp for Tito, who sent “traitors”, “opponents” and “enemies of Yugoslavia” to languish there. In that hell, hunger, thirst, sickness and atrocious violence destroyed the prisoners and their thoughts. To survive, they had to show themselves to have repented. Demonstrating this was straightforward: they had merely to massacre their former colleagues, friends, brothers, sons and fathers.
